Author preload images

May be a stupid question, When preoading images does it just cache for the present loaded/loading page or can you preloadimages for a site from the index page for use later on?

Whatever is loaded is loaded, it gets dumped into the cache so to speak.

The thing you need to understand is that you can't get something for
nothing. A 200K page (with 150K of preloads) will behave like a 200K page.
This means that you gain nothing by preloading images on a page that is
graphically heavy with those images. The real benefit to preloads is -

1. On pages that have no serious weight encumbrance, you can 'preload'
images that will be used on other pages in the site.
2. On pages that use rollover images, preloading those rollover images will
avoid a delay when you actually trigger the rollover.

And the answer to your question is as Pablo has said. A preloaded image
gets put into the local cache. As long as you always reference this image
in the same way (i.e., with the same filename) on any page in your site, it
will be pulled from the local cache.

second rule. And Murray gave you the time (1 hour) and space. Rant, ccs, dare
I ask? Now were did I dropped that slice of pizza 20 minutes ago.

I did not press the button twice, it's my connection, if I press send the
bloody thing hangs and stalls so I presume when I click send again it just
sends the message twice.

I could be wrong here, but I believe if it is the same images from the same
domain, sub directory, etc. then they will not be downloaded a second time.

One way to test this would be to put a medium - large image up, and test it
yourself on a dial-up connection. If the page has nothing else on it, the speed
of the image loading should tell you.

I didn't use preload images, but here are two pages with the same (medium
size) images.

http://www.thehiddenforest.net/intro3.cfm
http://www.thehiddenforest.net/home.cfm

I don't think it redownloads in this case.
