| I'm learning to build a site. I created a simple page to upload as a under
construction page. I don't know how to do it. I believe I have created a proper
local and remote site. I just need to get the page online. I don't know what to
do. I've been working with the put function.... can someone explain?

| Hi Kamolahy, I'm one up from a noob which means I might have been making the
same mistake quite recently! What's going wrong when you connect to your site?
Do you get a dialogue box saying that DW is connecting? Does it complete or
cut out? Have you got the right details from your host about what folder to put
the site in? Mistakes or sabotage elements I've encountered include having to
use htdocs as the destination folder with one host but not another and
recently, discovering that nothing gets through my firewall unless I reduce its
vigilance temporarily. Oh and sometimes index.html is fine, sometimes it will
only work if the page is index.htm - but it does have to be called index (in
lower case), nothing else
If you describe a bit more what you're doing, people with more naus than me
will almost certainly be able to help. They've sorted me out more than once!
Good luck
JJ

Both .htm and .html will work on most servers. It's a preference set by the
host as to which file extension gets returned first.
Best to check with your host as to what the name of the default file should
be (in any directory). It is usually a choice between default.htm(l) or
index.htm(l)
I usually try index.htm first.

Have you read through Dreamweaver's F1 Help files?
They explain it pretty thoroughly.
