Author relative links

I have seven classes worth of students who all submit pages to a website.
Every class' pages go into a different folder and all link back to the index
page of their own class' folder. So I want the links to be "../index.html"
which is how I have the example page written. But when the pages are copied
form the students' computers to my computer, DW adds the entire path of the
link including the name of the computer. How can I create link code that will
not be altered by DW, even if it is written as a page-relative link?

I think its because Link management is turned on which corrects the links in a
page when the page is moved to another location. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone
here, but you, or who ever is working on the files, needs to answer no when
asked by dreamweaver to update links. Or you can turn it off all together.
http://livedocs.macromedia.com/drea...himpl/common/ht
ml/wwhelp.htm?context=Using_Dreamweaver&file=16_lin16.htm in the macromedia
help tells you how to do that. Well, it tels you how to turn it on, but, yeah,
the answer is obvious.
Anyway, try this, if no one else has a better solution.

I don't think you are going to find a good solution to this.

But I have two questions -

1. Which DW are you using?
2. How are you copying the student files to your computer?

We are using DW2004MX. The students create a folder on their computer. Then
they create a web picture and save it to that folder. They then open my
Example Page (pulled off the web or from the server), place their picture on
the page, and type in their name. The picture already placed on my Example Page
has a link to the index page above the student?s folder, written ../index.html.
They then re-save the page into their folder. They then copy the folder form
their computer to the server from which I retrieve it.

I believe that Bombardos is on the right track. I have to set the Managing
Links preference to Prompt and then instruct the students to reply ?No?. [Or
set the pref to Never, although that might screw up some other students who are
really trying to make a site.] I am not at school now so I do not know how the
computers prefs are currently set, nor do I know what the default pref is, but
this sounds like a reasonable start.

I tried making my web page a template, but that also sets the link to a
particular file and doesn?t work in this instance. I just want that piece of
code to always read ../index.html, so no matter what class folder I place these
page into they will link to the right index page.

if you have any other suggestions, please let me know.
