Author DW8 template update options have changed

Hi kids,

In earlier versions of DW, when you select Modify->Templates->Update Pages,
there were several choices, including one that was either Folder or Selected
Files (can't remember which). Now you can only select Entire Site or Files
that Use [a template}.

I am making big template changes to a huge site, and I am taking it slowly.
My plan was to do it folder by folder. Is there any other way to update
selected files rather than all on the site? Seems odd that a feature would be
taken away.

Mary:

I have to say you are mistaken. It has certainly not been that way in my
recollection, nor would it ever make sense for it to be so (in my opinion).
I think you have to bite the bullet and let it do the whole site - but how
many files are we talking about here?

Hi Guys,

I was wondering how to update the Page TItle of page that's inherited from a
Template. Currently the Page Title is resets to the Title of the Template
everytime I try to change the Title.

Thanks,
McoreD

Put an editable region around the page title in the template page. A
properly made template should have one there anyhow.

Darn it, Murray, you are right. I just went back and looked at someone else's
computer with MX on it. I must have had it mixed up with something else where
you can just operate on selected files. Rats.

1900 files. I'll just be crossing my fingers that all goes well. I made big
honking changes to the templates, which is why I'm nervous. The templates were
originally created in 2001, and we know so much more now about creating good
clean standards-compliant HTML and using CSS and reducing the amount of hard
coding.

Breathing deeply, going forward.

Good luck, Mary. Post back if I can help!

It sounds very much like your site has outgrown the practical limits of
templates. You really should start investigating SSI or some server
scripting, possibly involving a database.
