I recently upgraded from MX 2004 to version 8 of both Dreamweaver and
Fireworks. When I tried to use the Dreamweaver "Edit in Fireworks" button to do
"round-trip" editing, the old version of Fireworks (MX 2004) was opening. In
Dreamweaver, I went into Edit | Preferences | File Types/Editors and changed
the "Fireworks" box to use version 8 instead of MX, but this didn't fix the
problem. So, I uninstalled Fireworks MX 2004, but now when I try to use
round-trip editing, I just get an error message saying that it is unable to
open Fireworks MX 2004. (duh!)

Does anyone know where and how to change the setting that tells the "Edit in
Fireworks" button which version of Fireworks to use???

Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can provide.

Edit in Fireworks launches Fireworks MX 2004 instead of Fireworks 8
topic update: September 16, 2005
Issue

After selecting an image in Dreamweaver 8 and clicking on the Fireworks icon
in the Property Inspector to edit the image in Fireworks, Fireworks MX 2004 (or
other previously installed version) launches instead of Fireworks 8, (Ref.
196137)
Solution

In the Preference dialog box for File Types/Editors in Dreamweaver 8 (Edit >
Preferences, select File Types/Editors), perform the following steps:

* Remove any Editors for file types that are associated with Fireworks by
selecting the application and pressing the minus button.
* Add back an editor pointing to the Fireworks executable (Fireworks.exe)
for Fireworks 8. Fireworks.exe is located in C:/Program
Files/Macromedia/Fireworks 8, unless installed to a non-default location

:D
Thanks, evropa -- you're my hero! This worked!
(I'd tried searching the knowledge base, but didn't find this article; guess I wasn't using the right keywords)
