closing pop up window
|
|
| yello77 2005-10-31, 6:29 pm |
| i have a pop up window come up when the Home page is loaded (onload).
my problem is that this site is navigated by the user returning to the Home
page in order to view other pages -
so, each time the user goes back to the Home page another pop up window comes
up.
is there a way to only have the pop up window come up once ( when the user
first comes to the site) and if that pop up window is closed it will not appear
again?
many thanks

| You could set a 24-hour cookie and if the cookie is found the popup window
can be set to not open or just auto-close.

| Most users won't see it anyhow, since it will be blocked....

| Assuming that "most" people will not see it is not a safe approach. It would
make more sense to set a cookie to allow it to only pop open once.

| Think of it this way - why waste the time and effort to do a pop-up onload
at all if a) most people won't see it, and b) you have to fiddle around with
cookies to make it work the way you want. That's my point.

| I totally understand what you are saying, but to be safe why not code the
popup window to only open once per day, that way the people that are not
lumped into the "most" category are nor annoyed.

| Murray,
You sure seem to want to argue a lot these days.
I guess we can agree to disagree.
