Author [OT] PDF creation... alternatives for Adobe Acrobat?
Marja Ribbers

Hi,

Does anyone know of a good alternative for Adobe Acrobat for creating =
PDFs with support for bookmarks etc.?

I donwloaded the Acrobat 30-day trial, but it is so very slow.=20
And I've looked at many other, simpler PDF products, but none of them =
seems to support bookmarks and cross-document links.

The product does not need to be free. I'm just looking for good value =
for my money.

Anyone?

Regards, Marja

Hi Marja

In the past I have used easypdf

http://www.visagesoft.com/products/easypdf/

In the end I purchased a full version of the Adobe program but easy pdf is
cheap and supports links etc.

The problem I found with it was compatibility with old pdf documents etc
but at 30 (cant find the euro sign) it's good value.

Hi Ian,

Thank you for your reply.

Why did you decide to buy the Adobe program lateron? Was that because of =
the PDF compatibility issue?

CutePDF (http://www.cutepdf.com). I don't think the free version supports
bookmarks, but the paid for version does)

Win2PDF (http://www.daneprairie.com/products/) has some nice features, but I
can't see any reference to bookmarks.

I use both of these. CutePDF is better for some documents, Win2PDF better
for others.

Pete.

Hi

I had problems with viewers who had older versions of adobe reader. Although
this goes back to the days before broadband when downloading was a serious
problem.

The software worked OK but I was made aware of issues which I was unable to
rectify easily.

I decided that If everyone wants to emulate Adobe then I should get the full
program and since then I've had no compatitibily problems. I'm afraid I do
tend to look for the past of least agravation rather than struggle to find a
work around!.

I have used lots of |PDF software and all work but none do verything that
adobe does.
ie. If I write a manual for a database I can do it in word and create text
and pdf versions at the same time.

I suppose it's like DW it isn't the cheapest but everyone compares their
product to it -

Cheers

I agree, but the Acrobat trial is so slow that it triggered me to look =
for alternatives.
I'm definitely not looking for the cheapest, but rather for simply a =
good solution.
