Hi,

Desperate for some advice. I have just begun learning web design with
Dreamweaver 8 and Fireworks 8. I've made myself a decent looking template in
Fireworks and now want to add tables and content etc in Dreamweaver. I've read
the guide on how to optimize and export but whatever method I try, I seem to
come up against a brick wall.

I can export the page to Dreamweaver with no problem but once it's there,
I can't do anything with it. If I try to add a table or text, it adds it
outside of a boundary that surrounds the exported page.

I realise that this is really basic stuff but I just can't seem to make
head nor tail of it. if anyone can proffer any advice, i'd be extremely
grateful and a relived man!

Thanks

Neil

Learn HTML. Once you learn that, it will all make sense.

Trying to fight with the horrid and complex HTML that Fireworks makes for
you will just drive you insane.

Hi,

When you export from Fireworks you have different options. You can export the
whole page like one image which is what you have done or you can export the
images in slices. So the page appears in a table with a number of images and
then it up to you on where you put your text in the table.

Sorry if I haven't explained this very well it may help if you show a url and
point out where you wont the table and text to go in Dreamweaver.

You could put the fireworks page into a table?

Murray TMM. - Thanks for the input but I was hoping to avoid having to learn
HTML indepth. I've learnt the basics but it looks like a long, long road
before I get competant enought to put a professional looking site together. I
was rather hoping that using Dreamweaver would speed it all up for me.

sa_designer - Thankyou kindly for taking the time to put a reply together. I
will give your suggestions a whirl....here's hoping! Thanks for the advice :-)

It will, but not until you achieve some competency with the core
technologies. If you do not take the time to become familiar with HTML and
CSS, you will never be able to "...put a professional looking site
together". You will always be struggling with the things that you can do in
design view, but you cannot undo in design view....

For what it's worth, you would have the same issues with any other HTML
authoring program....

To add to what Murray has told you, I'd say that you will be less than
effective using Dreamweaver without a reasonably thorough understanding
of the underlying technologies. Once you understand what happens and
why, when you click a button in Dreamweaver, you'll know what buttons to
click and when.
