Dreamweaver is bugged

| What is with Dreamweaver crashing so much on Win XP, when working on small to
medium scale applications. I use it for .asp (not .net ) every few hours it
crashs with can't read blah blah blah from this and that. Just gets annoying
after a while. Most of the error seem to be cannot read memory from the
registry entry or along those lines.
example the last crash i got:
-----------------------------------
The instruction at "0x5ad71531" referenced memory at "0x00000014". The memory
could not be "read".
With intel P4 3.2 and 2g of ram this isnt a ram or performance issue,
Dreamweaver as long as I can remeber has been bugged with handling complex
sites. Is any one else experiencing these problems.

| Hi Kenny,
This error happened to me quite a bit in MX 2004 but is mostly better in DW
8. It tends to happen when using a lot of find and replace and switching
between apps quite a bit. Does that sound like your situation?

| I should also add, lots of files open (always more than 4 files at a time)
which use includes and often Design-Time CSS.

| That is exactly what I do. When developing new or migrating I always have more
than 1 file open for reference and or debugging. I will have sql server
enterprise manager open, IIS manager, with outlook on a typical day. But having
a lot of ram this should not be an issue. Haven?t had a problem with find and
replace, could be doing anything and at any moment it blows up on me and I
could lose work if I didn?t save often. DW has really made me use to.
I liked using Ultradev 5 years ago, when they separated the dynamic controls
and features from DW. With all the time and effort they put into Flash they
should really sit down and work on making DW a better product for web
developers and not just the designers. A .net developer cannot even use DW to
access close to the full potential of .net . You cannot compile if you?re using
code behind. Writing custom controls is not even an option. I don?t think there
is any need for Macromedia to include any .net functionality unless there just
trying to sell a product. I remember asking the macromedia products manager at
a seminar if they were going to add better functionality for products like
Ultradev. His response was ?we are definitely going to be working in that
area...? I have yet to see this, even though his answer was probably just to
make people happy.

| Hi Kenny,
I had the worst time with that error in .Net pages but either I had a lot of
files open that use Design-Time CSS or I'd do some find and replace during
the session before DW would crash. It didn't crash during, just only if I'd
done Find and Replace (usually site-wide) at some point. For me, Design-Time
CSS, include files, and Find and Replace were the common denominator to
reproduce the crashing.
Again, this is MUCH better for me in DW 8. Have you downloaded the trial
yet? I'm curious if it is better for you too now.
If you can give reproducible steps, the form Murray referred you to can be
used to report the issue too.
As for UltraDev, I used to joke with people that if you're not crashing it
at least 4 times a day you're not a power user. ;-)
Regards,
~Angela
