How do I use math.round to round a number to 3 decimal

I have a text field, fld_vph, that is calculated from a function and has a long
series of decimal places. I want to create a function that rounds this number
to only 3 decimal places. I've tried multiple ways, but none work. Any ideas
on the correct syntax to round a text field in "document.form1.fld_vph.value"?
