That's not my experience with DW8. Regardless of the DOCTYPE, when you
insert a form element, it gets only a name. If you subsequently type a
name in the property inspector, it uses that value for both the name and
id attributes. I know of no way to disable that.

Nope. It's only required if you use 'label' elements with the 'for'
attribute, which is an ID reference.
