I am synching sites and i noticed the ftp feature in DW very slow. Is it my
settings or just really slow?

Thanks,
Tony

It must be your connection, I ftp all the time with DW and its as quick as
any other ftp program I have used The only problem I have is when I upload a
full site and DW won't let me carry on working. This is when I pop a beer or
two so it's not really a problem :)

when you do a site sync- dw first runs through all the files, checking to
see whether the local or remote is newer.
then you click okay, and it moves the selected files.

that file time checking takes time.

roughly how many files in this site?

also- Do you have checkin/checkout enabled on this site?
uploading of design notes?
Contribute enabled?

what kind of internet connection?
dialup? cable/dsl? other? what?

I have a few different host servers that I ftp to with DW, some are faster
than others It may be the host that is slowing it down. With some of the
slower ones, I kick back and relax....and read a good book. A particular
one seems to always be within arms reach...........

You're not reading fast enough, though.

But - have you read "Skinny Dip"?

I have high speed connect of 786 download and 512 upload adn its fairly
consisitant.
When i use ws_ftp i see upload speeds of 100 or so and when i use dw2004 for
same pages it shows 7 or 8 up and download. i am using NetPeeker to watch
the speeds.

I do have Contribule enabled and check in and check out.
I am uploading to four different sites.
One site is 125 megs worth.
second is 14megs
onthers small.
Thanks for the replies i will keep looking to see if i have done something
to keep it slow.

I find that it is very slow too compared to a dedicated FTP program. But you
have to realize that a 3rd party FTP program typically uses multiple
connections at once, whereas DW uses only 1.
Also DW isn't focused on FTP, which it should be, so inevitably it won't be
up to the task for FTPing that a dedicated program would be.

Thanks myob.
Just thought I had a problem. I can live with the DW FTP and life goes on.
Take care,
Tony
