Streaming Video Problem

| I'm trying to stream some video clips off of my website. I'd like for the
clips to open up in an external program like Windows Media Player. I have them
in wmv format...but I'm not sure how to get them to open up and stream into the
window media player. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks, MookDawg

| The best way I found to stream audio or video with Windows Media Player is to
use the Windows Media Encoder 9, found on microsoft's website (just search for
Windows Media Encoder).
After, you can convert any type of video in wmv format. You simply choose
'Convert a file', choose the source and target file, and then choose 'Windows
Media Server (streaming)' and the desired target speed.

| just link directly to your .wmv file. (i.e., change link from
http://bah-blah.htm to just movie.wmv) That will cause the user's browser
to do one of two things:
1. Run the video on the left side of IE, if they had previously indicated
they wish to view videos within the browser.
2. Opens wmv file with the program associated with that file extension
(default is media player)
* note: the above just play the video. It does NOT stream.
As for streaming, you really need one of two things to actually stream
efficiently. Either place the video within flash (which I found out seems
to crash or bog down if you try a video longer than 1 minute or more) or
utilize a streaming server (i.e., Win2k pro server or 2003). These can
stream full length movies very smoothly. With streaming servers, you simply
create a playlist using the server's wizard (much like creating a media
player playlist), add commercials if desired, and then stream by linking to
mms://url/folder/playlist. This method also performs the above #1 or #2
items mentioned above.
