Author How to position images next to a block of text w/css

I have been reading the great step by step tutorials in the Dreamweaver CSS
section of this website. I want to change my websites from a tables based
layout to CSS. However I am having a little trouble figuring out how to lay out
my pages which have to be exactly like the table based ones.

I have a lot of text blocks that go alongside images. How do I position them
using CSS. Do I have to create an external style sheet, or can I do it inline?
Also, the blocks of text & images are going to be within an Editable Region of
my new DW templates. What is the best method to use here? Most of my pages
follow a similar format. I just don't feel too confident yet in creating my own
external style sheets.

Thanks for your help and time!

Sincerely,
MaggiLu
