Spontaneous Links from browser

| I have noticed that when I view my webpages several links seem to appear from
nowhere. These seem to come from the web environment as they are not hyperlinks
in the code, and seem to be activated around 'key words' such as 'home' or
'search' etc and have the link destination... 'goto: [key word]' . i.e. 'goto:
home' or 'goto: search'. Why do these occur and how can I stop them from
appearing in the first place? Dylan

Need to see the page, but it *might* be the infamous MS Smart tags which
I thought were gone:
http://www.alistapart.com/articles/smarttags/
If that's the case, try putting this in the head section:
<meta name="MSSmartTagsPreventParsing" content="true">
But this could also be something your host is doing if you're on a free
place. Let's see the URL, please.

| spyware/scumware/adware.
clean YOUR machine. It's programs on Your machine inserting the code on
pages YOU view.
Download and run these two free apps.
Ad-Aware:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
and
Spybot Search & Destroy:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
On both sites, the download pages link you to mirror sites where you
actually download the applications. The free or Personal Editions of both
apps are fine for regular folks.
After downloading and installing them - use the UPDATES buttons they each
have so they get a current spyware definition list. Always update before
using. Depending on size of the hard drive, may take 10 to 20 minutes to
perform a scan. (clearing the IE Temporary Internet Cache file before the
scan can save a bit of time )
And use the "Immunize" button in Spybot to prevent getting re-infected with
known malware/adware.
And- just for giggles or belt and suspenders checking, open up the
Anti-Virus and see what the date of the Virus Definition file is, and date
of last full system scan.
