Unwanted nested main template

I am new at web update and design. I have unwittingly made a nested template
within my original template but cannot find the original. Every time I try to
update a file using the original template it indicates that the template is
nested within the first. Can you help me to figure out how to unnest the
template when the second nested template has not been given a saved name?
Thanks for any help you might offer! The error message I receive says,
"Template file "Macintosh
HD:Users:ekarnes:Private:icsb_site:Templates:main.dwt" is nested inside itself
(directly or indirectly)
