Author recreating cache

Hi: When I open Dreamweaver, I am asked to re-create the cache before opening. With a large site, this can take some time.

How can I correct this?

Is your local site actually on a network remote shared drive?

I am having a similar problem. It just started yesterday, I have made no
changes of any kind. What happens is that often when I just select a file from
the list of files in a site on the right it hangs forever, like 5 mintues, then
finally it says the cache is being recreated because it was damaged or missing,
then I wait an eternity and finally sometimes it opens and sometimes it just
never does, but I get the Not Responding in the title bar. It also is
happening when I try to switch from one site to another, so I'm working in one
site then try to open another on the right menu in the site drop down
list...same exact process. So it's constantly rebuilding the cache. It
started when I tried to open a site from within Dreamweaver (as above,
switching from one to another) and the program hung forever. Finally I shut
down the computer, restarted, and Dreamweaver would not initialize at all. It
kept trying but wouldn't open. So I reinstalled Dreamweaver. Now the program
starts, but it's doing this constant cache recreation and often just hanging
indefinitely. It's driving me insane.

Any suggestions on how to solve the problem?

I'm working on a Dell laptop, Windows XP, Dreamweaver MX, files are local on
my hard drive, no network involved.

Thanks in advance. And by the way, thanks in general for always being so
responsive and helpful!

Where is your local site in relation to your computer?

It's all on my hard drive, no network involved. Just one computer.

Thanks.

OK - create a new page, insert an image, and before saving the page, copy
the image link to the clipboard and paste it into a reply here, please.

file:///C|/sites/EZConstructionLoans/assets/banner_400pxw.jpg

It doesn't let you insert an image without giving you a message that it will
save a copy of the image to that directory or something like that. Then when I
save the page this file:///C|/sites/ mess of course changes to the right thing.
It is not just happening on this site, it's happening about half the time I
open Dreamweaver and then says it has to recreate the cache because it is
missing or damaged for whatever site I happen to be trying to open.

Thanks!

This all looks OK. For some reason, DW is having a problem either writing
the cache or reading it. I recommend you contact Macromedia directly and
use one of your one-on-one support incidents.

Ok, thanks for your help. How many of those do you get?
Murray *TMM*

2004-08-19, 8:50 pm

How many recreating cache messages? I never took notice, really. I usually
get a cache scan each time I enter a new site but a recreating cache? I
can't remember the last one....
