Author Give edit rights to certain areas of a page?

Hello,

I thought I would throw out my question to the rest of you. I do know
Dreamweaver MX 2004 as I just finished up my evening Intermediate level class.
At my job though, I was informed that our department may be setting up an
intranet and it was mentioned that he wanted us to control the template (menu
& links) but give certain regions of the page to certain departments to edit.

How is this done? This wasn't really of course talked about in class.
I could create the template but then how do I hand that over to like HR to
edit the body and not touch the template?

Please tell me in detail as I need an answer by tomorrow for a meeting.

Thank You,

Angie

This is why I'm convinced that classes are crap. If they didn't tell you how
to properly implement Dreamweaver Templates I'd demand my money back if I
were you.

Templates have two main purposes:
1. Design time: to easily update/change pages which share similar or
identical elements.
2. To disallow messing with non-editable regions.

If you want the HR department to only be able to edit the body, only make
the body editable. They can't screw with anything outside the editable
areas, only YOU (who holds the template) can do that. Everyone else gets a
CHILD page, they do NOT get a copy of the template.

Hello...

I am sorry, I didn't explain more about the class. I did indeed learn about
templates and editable regions and such and understand the concept of giving
them the page that has the body as the editable region only. My question was
more of... how am I going to control users going in there and editing their
editable page that is from my template. Now it sounds like the Contribute
product is what I really need.

How hard is it to learn Contribute? I know Dreamweaver real well... learning
curve was actually long so wanted to find out just how easy it is to use.
Glad to know that I can continue to use my Dreamweaver and that Contribute will
work with it.

Thanks - Angie

Contribute is simple compared to Dreamweaver. It sounds like *exactly* what
you need. Get the 30-day trial and take a look!
