Why not show your whole page's code, please, rather than snippets?

Thanks....

But now, when I try to save, I get "recursive reference to
/Library/class-brse-paper-single-roll.lbi"

The code is:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"><!--

<table width="195" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="1" border="0">

please upload the file, so it can be seen in total.

from what's in the post- the library item seems to be just after a meta
tag???????

Is the library item in the head of the document??????

Or is the document having problems with proper syntax?

The files class-brse.dwt and header.lbi really do not exist.
I even checked my backups to see if I had deleted them.

I'm clueless as to the real nature of the problem- my first response made an
assumption that was likely incorrect.

Please fully state what the problem is, or at least what the symptoms of it
are-

What does or does not exist- what is or is not happening,

AND please give full urls to any and all files you mention.

glenna posted something on 8/26/04 1:17 PM so i blathered about to and fro:

question is- did they ever exist, or is the reference to them some munged
up coding. I'm guessing the latter- since IF you are editing an .lbi file,
it is either impossible or not good practice for an .lbi to contain other
..lbi files, or to be based on a template .dwt file. But it's just a GUESS,
since i haven't any code to base a factual answer on.

as a guess- the .lbi file is munged up-
If you want to try and salvage it- Open it in a different text editor.
NotePad, bbedit, homesite+, whatever you've got.
Edit it to correct it as best you can. If you would like some help, Please
Give A URL Address To The Code.
Save the file, then go back to dreamweaver menu-->Modify-->Library
Items-->Update Library Items.

> Would it be simpler to just create a new library file and reattach the .htms

Depending on what is messed up where-
If it's just the .lbi that is munged-
Create a new .lbi file to replace the munged one. Give it the same exact
filename as the bad one.

If the html comments that insert the .lbi file into the individual pages are
munged- it will probably involve hand editing of every file to correct
things.

The tiny example of code you have provided still takes me back to a question
i asked previously:

WHY is there a meta tag just before the library item?

Dreamweaver does not work with library items between the <head> </head>
tags. Is the entire page(s) a bunch of moosepucky that dw can't make sense
of?

When I attempt to save class-brse-paper-single-roll.lbi after changing it,
Dreamweaver says that two files being referenced in the code "class-brse.dwt"
and "header.lbi" cannot be found, which is correct, because they do not exist.
The exact error message is
"c:\cfusionmx\wwwroot\melab\Library\class-brse.dwt header.lbi was not found."
====
If I go to File, Save as...I can save the file, but it does not update the
other .htm files attached to this library.
=====
I would to remove the erroneous reference to the files that do not exist.
However, when I do that I get the error messages mentioned above.
==========
Would it be simpler to just create a new library file and reattach the .htms
to the new file?

Thanks for the help.
I cannot seem to fix this myself.

The link is http://www.microessentiallab.com/paper/paper.html

Is there a way for me to tell what files this library is linked to, in case I
delete and recreate it.?
It seems that at least some of the linked .html files are linked to the wrong
name.

Murray *TMM*

33 stylesheet links? Redundant <title> tags? At least there is only one
set of <head> and <body> tags.

Anyhow, there is a single Library item on this page -

<!-- #BeginLibraryItem "/Library/paper-single-roll.lbi" -->

The code in it is unremarkable. DW cannot generate any error messages
related to this particular Library item.

I suppose the problem is with the site cache. Can you refresh it with SITE
| Recreate Site Cache? Or perhaps try create a totally new site definition
that is identical to this one?

do a Find in source sitewide for that exact filename-

> It seems that at least some of the linked .html files are linked to the wrong
> name.

The only way to fix that would be to open those pages, delete the incorrect
library item, and insert the correct one from the Asset panel.

the file you linked uses this template file:
http://www.microessentiallab.com/Te...single-roll.dwt

and this library item:
http://www.microessentiallab.com/Li...single-roll.lbi

in that .lbi file, at the top, is this:

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">

that's normal in a library item, if it's using other than "standard"
character set.

it would be a good idea to use commands-->clean up html to merge and clean
up all those font tags in the .lbi file.

questions/comments-
The code for the .lbi DOES show in yellow in pages it's used in- that's
normal. That's the way it works. If you want to edit the .lbi file, click
in the yellow indicating it in the design view of pages it's used in.
Look at the Property Inspector now. See where it gives the filename of the
..lbi, and there is an EDIT button? click the edit button, and the lbi
opens. Editing the .lbi will update all instances of it in the local site.
You can't edit a single use of an lbi in a page- the concept of library
items is that it's something you will use on multiple pages, AS-IS in every
page it is used in. If you want one instance of it to be different, use the
Property Inspector to "detach" that chunk of code from the library item, so
it is editable. Once detached, it's just regular code- no longer tied to the
library item.

I'm not sure if there is a real problem, or if it's a misunderstanding of
the way library items are supposed to work. Could you clarify?

I didn't see any instances of the code you first mentioned in the first
posts- class-brse.dwt header.lbi

There are 20 or 30 linked .css files in the code of the template.
many are repeats- suggest going over them and removing the dupes, and
merging most of them into one main css file, just to make some sense out of
it all.

I will work on cleaning things up as per your email.

I see that when I View Source Code from the browser I do not see the code
section causing the problems.
I only see that in the .lbi file that is in a previous reply.

In any case, I am no longer sure what is causing the problem either and I will
probably go through your last set of recommendations, until one of them
resolves the issue.

Thanks again for your patience and feedback.
