Although a basic counter on provides the most rudimentary and often
inaccurate information it is normally easy to implement.

Which server scripting language have you available?

You don't need one. If what you're after is data on how many visits
you're getting, ask your hosting provider to supply you with raw logs
and/or a logfile analyzer. Many already do this; if not, ask them why
not or move to a different hosting provider.

Felix1 has a nice free extension for adding a simple counter to a
Dreamweaver PHP page

Why do you want a counter? If it's just to show some numbers, than any old
counter will do. Most all of them are very inaccurate and don't really give
you any real data, though.

If what you are after is actual site visitor data, then you need to analyze
the server logs. Most competent ISPs will provide you with server stats for
you. Ask your ISP if they already have something set up.
