| Hi, this is I'm sure a simple question, but can't seem to find a simple answer.
I need to know how to import text dynamically from an external text file (from
wordpad for example), in order that it may be updated without the updater
having to use dreamweaver.
many thanks in advance for any help offered....

From your description, it appears as if SSI (Server-Side Include) could
be what you're looking for. However, the "updater" need to have a
ftp-client to upload the file, e.g. Filezilla. Your host also need to
accept SSI and you must ask him which file extension you need to use
(commonly shtml or shtm).
In short, it works like this:
You create you page as usual and save it with the file extension your
host is using to parse for SSI, e.g. myfile.shtml.
Then you place the SSI insert tag where you want the external file to be
included. In DW, it's in menu Insert -> html -> scripts or something
like that (don't have DW open right now) and navigate to the external file.
That file can't be a regular html file (with head, body, etc), but just
a plain text file. You can use almost any file extension, e.g.
myinclude.txt.
PS: I think DW will create the SSI tag using the words "include file"
(and then the path to the textfile). You might have to change that to
"include virtual". You also might have to try different paths to the
include-file, i.e. doc relative as well as root relative and absolute
(an URL).
