I am implementing an email cloaking functionality for the body text of our
web pages. However, should I also be doing something with the contact form
mail template attched to our forms .. mailtemp.txt.

Do the bots read form templates as well?

Are they linked from any page in the main site? If so, then yes.

yes the template is linked to from our main Contact Page form.

How do I go about hiding the email address in a mailtemp.txt file?

I don't have a clue - I don't know what your mailtemp.txt file looks like.

But the best suggestion is to put it somewhere serverside, where it can
never be accessed by a client.
