| EVERY = not really - i would say 50%
1- XP
2- Norton Anti-Virus Corporate Edition 7.6.926
3- Yes
4- None
5- Usually:
a. Outlook
b. Outlook Express
c. Photoshop
d. Notepad
6- None that I know of
7- NO
8- On local hard drive - shared, but only with my other computer, which has
NOT been connected
9- I just Upgraded/Installed from DW4 - it happened the very first time I
ran it (11 days ago), and has happened about 3 or 4 times since. I open it
first thing in the morning, and keep it open all day. it has to completely
rebuild the cache file after this, because it says it got corrupted (i
presume because of the crash - this only happens upon re-opening it after a
crash)
10- I guess it might only happen with this main site I do - I can't remember
if it was one of my other sites
11- DW recreates it as I mentioned before - when I re-open it after a crash,
it rebuilds it.
12- NO
13- NOT logging in as Admin., but I do have Admin privileges.
when I go to exit - it will just hang for a while, and then if i click the
exit again, of course it says program not responding, then gives me the End
Now option, which really just helps finalize the crash. a few days ago, i
thought it had kinda worked this hanging up out (as I stated, it happened
the very first time or two I used the program), but then yesterday it
happened again. When I thought it had worked itself out, I mean that when I
hit the "X" for exit - it exited quickly - no hang, and did not have to
rebuild the site cache.
thanks for any thoughts!

This implies strongly that the problem is in the environment in which DW is
operating.
> 2- Norton Anti-Virus Corporate Edition 7.6.926
> 3- Yes
This could certainly be one contributor to the environmental problem. Can
you disable this AV? Or at the least can you exclude the Macromedia folder
hierarchy (Program Files/Macromedia) from the realtime scan?
If that fails to solve the problem, then I recommend you contact Macromedia
directly and use one of your one-on-one support incidents.

No - I'm not necessarily suggesting to upgrade. Is this your personal
system? Or are you operating in a larger Network environment? If it's a
personal system, then disable Norton and see if your DW crashes on exit. If
it does not, you have just revealed the culprit, I think.

In Norton configuration you can exclude certain folders from being realtime
scanned.

| ok - check this:
i went to the configuration for norton's, and coincidentally I had turned
off real-time protection prior to installing my upgrades a little over a
week ago, and have not turned it on since: so that would seem to eliminate
the Norton's from this issue.
any other thoughts? and I do appreciate your help.

| Kyle:
If you are SURE that realtime protection is off, then try disabling Norton
completely. If that fails to solve the problem, then see the last paragraph
in my previous post.
