Hi all,

New to all this - was wondering what exactly is involved with creating
metatags for seeding search engines. I made a site with what I thought were
tags with good keywords, etc, but weeks later, the major search engines won't
find it. We seeded the site using Hello Engines which might be different from
DW - Is there a good general tutorial on seeding and tags or even one for DW
specifically would be ok

Thanks

Bill

I have quite a few articles related to Search Engine Optimisation that may
be of help here:

In addition to Nadia's links:

SE submission/indexing has changed quite dramatically. The only SE
that'll include your site for free nowadays is Google. But on the other
hand, they have implemented a "quarantine" period that lasts something
like 2-4 months. No one really knows exactly. It's called "sandboxing",
and the reason could be that they're trying to figure out how "serious"
a site really is before actually including it.

The other major SEs (AltaVista, Yahoo, MSN, etc) will not include you
unless you pay, e.g. using the "Overture" program. If you chose not to
pay, you'll need to have incoming links from other sites that *are*
listed by them. If you're lucky, they'll then include it after 2-4
months, i.e. waiting time as the Google sandboxing, but these guys are
doing it to make you open your wallet and pay for the submission.

Therefore, you can optimize for SE optimization until you're blue in the
face if the site is new and not previously included: it won't help
anyway. You need to sit down and wait, wait and wait and e.g. do a daily
search on the domain name to see when it's included. When you finally
find it, *then* you can start optimizing.

P.S. "Hello Engines" and similar software for SEO is useless and they're
created to rip off unknowing people. Not only are they blowing hot air
and lying through their teeth. In fact, they're offering "features" that
might even make Google *penalize* your site for "spamming".

The <meta> tags have little to do with it any more. Most search engines
ignore keywords because of the way they have been abused in the past.
Instead, they concentrate more on content. See
