hi thanks for the tip,

just tried to do this but it not possible.

on the child template, you have to detach it form the main template in order
to make any changes to it. however, when you do this, all the main template
attributes go with it!

so i'm finding it difficult to make the suggested change .
pls help!

Oh, right. Sorry.

Try this -

1. Make a backup of the child template pages.
2. In DW's File panel, select all of the child template pages.
3. Open the Results panel, and do a Find and Replace in "Selected Files in
Site" to find -

<!-- #BeginEditable "doctitle" -->

and replace with nothing.

Then do another F&R in selected files to find -

<!-- #BeginEditable "main_area" -->

and replace with nothing.

Finally do a third F&R in selected files to find -

<!-- #EndEditable -->

and replace with nothing.

I think that will work.

hi there again!

tried that. it removed all the tags as you described but when i try to save
the document to comes back with the errors as first mentioned.

you are definately right in the sense there is some sort of conflict between
the two versions of dm4 and the dm mx versions!

but the problem is you can remove the tags in hte child template but it will
not allow this be implemented onto the other assocaited pages.

At this point, I think your only option would be to recreate each child
template from the parent, and then save each over the corrupted one.

You can also try this:

1. Open the page (portfolio.html) in DW4
2. Use "File > Export" to export the template data into a XML file
3. Open the nested template protfolio.dwt in DW MX (or MX 2004)
3a. Change <!-- #BeginEditable "main_area" --> to <!-- TemplateEditableBegin
name="main_area" -->
(You might consider change the name too so it's less confusing, since the name
is the same as the editable region from the base template main.dwt)
3b. Change <!-- #EndEditable --> to <!-- TemplateEditableEnd -->
3c. Save the template
4. Use "File > Import > XML into Template" to recreate the page
(protfolio.html)

See if this works.

Wanda:

Thanks for posting this great solution! I think it'll work (provided the OP
*has* DW4!)....
