Dreamweaver does not stay connected
|

| All of the sudden today, Dreamweaver would not stat connected for more than a
minute to any given FTP server. I would work on a page and then do the usual
Ctrl+Shift+U to put the page up on the server and Dreamweaver would respond
with the following:
"The connection to the remote host has been lost. Click Refresh to reconnect."
--> And I push 'OK'
However, I cannot push the refresh button and have it reconnect, it for some
reason doesn't work. Furthermore, I have to push the connect icon quite a few
times with FTP connection errors coming up, before it finally connects. Once it
is connected I am able to upload my files. But if I try to upload again in
another, say, 3 minutes then I have to go through the entire process above. I
also during all this get the standard 'Dreamweaver was unable to connect to the
remote FTP server check your username and password' etc etc.
I tried dumping all the site cache, uninstalling and then reinstalling and
still nothing has worked. I also do have the 7.0.1 update installed.
Please help!
Thanks in advance,
Kyle

| Personally I gave up on the inbuilt FTP client and moved over the CuteFTP,
months ago, although your problem seems extreme, I found the FTP client to be
less then helpful...and would always recommand a 3rd party app...such as
CuteFTP.

| What in your network environment has changed in the last 24 hours,
particularly with regard to your firewall?
DW's FTP has always done yeoman duty for me.

| Actually, the only thing that has changed network wise is that I went from XP
SP2 RC1 to XP SP2 Gold. But I realised something this morning, it seems that
they majority of the problem is on one particular server. This particular site
is being hosted on a Mac on a T1 line on the 4DWebStar server. :-( Not my
choice in servers, but it is what I have to deal with.

| Then I would say that it's something to do with SP2's effect on your ability
to connect to that server.

| I believe I figured out the problem....
I opened up the Site Definition dialog box --> Remote Info --> Server Compatibility --> uncheck 'Use FTP Performance optimization'
And that fixed it!
