Author Fixed size layers?

Hi,
Is it possible to fix the size of layers. Such that when an image is placed
inside them it will reduce in size to fill the layer, rather than the layer
expanding to fit the image. I need this so that when my site is updated l can
place images into an image folder and not have to size them perfectly. Instead
they will automatically be fit into the layer. The images will not be much
larger than the layers, so there won't be a major squashing of the image.

Cheers guys,
yer, guess l will just have to crop the images to size like you said. Just a little more time consuming. Thanks for your help. :)

Yes, more time consuming, but more professional looking in the end. :)

I believe there was a thread on the FWs forum just recently about using a
batch process for this type of thing, may be an idea to jump over there and
see they offer some advice :-)

correct me if i am wrong, but i once used 100% as the height and width of
the image, i guess thats not the correct way to do it and will probably fail
in most browsers right?

at best it'll look really shody.
justin: take the extra effort of re-croping the images.

Resizing images like that is not usually a good (or a reliable) method. In
addition, I am confident that browsers will be confused as to which page
element the 100% applies to....
