Author Links targetting a 'parent' window

I have a number of pages on my intranet site which link to small pop up
windows. Some of these pop ups then have links which take users to other pages
on the main intranet site. I need these links to target the original window,
rather than the pop up window, and have followed the instructions - assuming I
have understood them correctly - in the Dreamweaver help files - setting the
'Target' for the link in the pop up window to '_Parent', which should mean in
then targets the original window.

However this does not appear to be working, and the link targets the pop up
window it is in. Does anyone have any suggestions about how I can get this to
work?

The _parent target is used in nested framesets to replace a nested
frameset with a single page. It's not what you want at all. Try
something like (may not work--done from memory):

<a href="java script:opener.document.location=yournewpage.html">

Check the DW exchange for extensions that allow you to manipulate a
window from another one.
