| Contribute is more for letting the client update the site. The pages are
usually static, not database driven. You set up a page design, using a
Dreamweaver Template. The client or contributor can add content in defined
areas using Contribute. It has features allowing "rollbacks" to previous
versions if they want to undo a change.
A database driven site is dynamic depending on what you've programmed into
it. That's the point- it's got programming. You could allow anyone or only
certain people to edit information or to even have access to see certain
pages or info.
On your specific question- using Contribute does not require that it be a
database site. I've got a couple of static sites that i've not touched
except to prepare backups of, where all changes and new content is done by
Contribute users. It works okay- supporting these users can be a bit of a
hassle because for the most part they are not comfortable around a computer
and can't describe what menu they are in even when you are talking to them
on the phone- you have to guess what they are trying to do and where they
are then spread breadcrumbs hoping it leads them to a safe place. Or to the
oven in the old Hansel and Gretal tale....

| Thanks for your response Alan.
You have made some great points and i am now wondering if i need to have a
database driven site at all.
With Contribute can I give the client a group of templated page which they can
use depending on which part of the site they need to add to?
Can the client add new pages to the site or can they only add to pages that
already exist?
Thanks again,
Colin
