Has anyone been trying out Firebird, as an alternative to using MySQL
for small to medium size PHP sites? It's relatively easy to connect to
a Firebird database, using the PHaKT extension.

With mysql no longer being fully open source, this may be the way to
go. I've been experimenting with it, and should have a tutorial ready
soon on how to do it. I'm not connected with Macromedia, Firebird or
PHaKT, but it may well be a very attractive alternative to using
PHP/MySQL.
