Website Marketing question
|
|
|
| I know this is a little off subject, but I respect the Dreamweaver community
so I'd like to ask your advise.
My question is; When would you consider splitting a site into two sites?
The scenario is; We have a pretty 'dense' website
(http://www.napavintners.com) with hundreds of pages. The site contains a
lot of info about our organization, but by far our most used area of the
site is our 'Winery Finder' which gives fairly detailed information on Napa
Valley wineries.
We (a non-profit trade organization representing the Napa Valley vintners)
also own the domain www.napawineries.com. The idea I'm throwing around is
creating a second site that is specifically geared toward Napa Valley
wineries. I would leave the winery info in the original site, but make it
the focal point of the 2nd site (and probably build the site out with the
winery's wine offerings).
Besides the database backend the sites would be completely different.
The advantages I see to this are: A cleaner navigation for users, Additional
'Internet real-estate' for our organization, and keywords of 'napa' 'wine'
'napa wine' 'napa wineries' and 'wineries' in our domain.
Do you think this is worth doing?

| yes, i would have two sites.
it sounds like you have already answered this question for yourself and your
answer is yes.
my impression of the internet is that it is like an ocean and you need not
one....but many nets to catch people;
so two sites (that ARE linked to eachother) would only benefit you.
