I'm sure they know, but for now I am still paying off Studio MX 2004 right on the heels of buying Studio MX, and am in no hurry to upgrade yet again...

I'll just head over to Project Seven...

Javascript menus have many flaws though... I think the biggest one is there
made of javascript... leaving the rest of your site untouched by search
engines unless you have text links everywere then whats the point of the
javascript menu in the first place :P

popup menus are fine as long as the links are in the HTML - not added by JS.

It's a test page only - but let me know what you think:

Try it with script on, script off, and zomm a couple hundred percent or
so :-)

Well, 'fine' is subjective. ;o)

As long as you have real URLs linking to real pages, then the menus are
certainly accessible. As to whether or not they're actually usable, well,
that's a different debate. ;o)

Al:

It's a VERY accessible fly-out menu system. Impressive! And well done.

But, again, as to whether it is usable is another issue. And that issue
usually has more to do with the site architecture and the user demographics
of the specific site than any particular menu.

I'm just saying that in terms of fly-out menus, accessability does not
necessarily equate to usability once other factors are considered.
Accessibility USUALLY means better usability, but they're not necessarily
the same thing.

Thanks. It was a fun exercise and hopefully will be completed in the
near future.

I agree that accessibility and usability are mutually exclusive.
Dropdows are not bad from a usability perspective if the action is
handled both onMouseOver and can be run via the keyboard. So long as the
top-level link is live, then the worst that can happen is a user says,
"OK, we have button looking things up there that say Products, Services,
Support. I wanna see their products". So she points her mouse at the
Products button and surprise - she sees additional choices with which to
narrow her selection. The worst that can happen is that she'll click the
link before she perceives the submenu and wind up on the main products
page. For novice mousers, there is a pretty large target to aim at so
losing the menu is not so much of an issue as on other types of popup
menus. Eh, there are enough people you want and like these things to try
to make them as clean as possible :-)
