Linking to image stored online

| Is it possible to add an image to a page which is stored remotely on a website
without manually typing the URL? I tried using the Insert image menu but I
can't get it to include the "HTTP://home.isp.net" before the directory on the
server. when I navigate to the file directory. If I go back and type the URL
it works fine but I'd rather not have to go through the step if possible. I'm
sure It's something I'm doing but am new to Dreamweaver and would appreciate
any assistance. Thanks

| To link to a file that is remote from your local site, you must use a fully
qualified link, e.g.,
<img src="http://www.blah.com/image.gif"

| If this is something you have to do often, about the only suggestion is to
make a "Snippet" of the text string then you can insert it quickly.
Dw has no facility to insert an image that only exists on the remote site..
I'm guessing there's a reason you don't just grab and download the files so
they do exist locally?

| I understand that. Sorry if I wasn't clear in my question. Can I accomplish
that by clicking on Items rather than having to manually type the full Path? No
matter what I try i can't add an image which is remote without typing the Url
part of the path.

| No, you must manually enter it. And make sure you enter the protocol as
well (http://).

| I do ebay auctions and create the code locally. I upload pix to my web site and
reference them in the code. I used to use Front Page which allowed inserting by
clicking the address. I will try the "Snippet" idea I take it that it is a
feature of DW. Thanks all.

okay- but there's no problem with having the images in your Local Site
Folder? They are there already, if you are using dreamweaver to upload
them- right? All you want to do is use an absolute full http: path to them?
then it can be done easily.
this older message may help:
Two tips on this:
Assuming that these images are in the current Site; That they do exist
inside of the Local Site Folder:
1) Let dw know what the full path to your site is:
Dw menu-->Site-->Edit Site or Manage Site
Select that site, press Edit
Click the "Advanced" tab at top, because it's quicker to find things.
Click "Local Info" in the category list on left.
Fill in the "HTTP Address" line with the address you use.
http://mysite.com
http://www.mysite.com
or
http://www.myhost.com/mysite
Now dw will treat absolute paths that are within your site as local paths.
{As Long As the images and links exist on your hd in the Local Site Folder,
they will display in Design view, and dw will manage the links if you rename
or move things. If the images don't exist in the Local Site Folder, they
won't show- dw will not pull them from the web}
2) install this extension to change linking methods with a click of a
button:
If you want to quickly change links to a different linking method- install
the Relativity Extension.
http://e7x.com/dw/ Relativity ext.
or here
http://www.microwaved.plus.com/dw/
(this Extension means you can make relative links in dreamweaver while doing
the layout, and then presto change all of them to full http:// links without
hand typing thedomain name or doing a find and replace)

| Thanks Alan. I don't understand the extension method as I am new to this stuff,
but I tried the first suggestion and it works fine. I appreciate the help, it
saved me days of hair pulling and four letter words muttered.
