Author Testing .shtml pages in MX

I've created a server side include and have changed all my page files from
..html to .shtml. However, now I can't preview the pages - all my browers in
the preview are greyed out. I get around it by having a duplicate set of files
with .html extensions, but this is redundant and a pain.

I've tried to find out how to tweak DW MX to allow me to preview .shtml files,
but no luck (I've checked the "preview using temporary file" box, but to no
avail).

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks.

You'd possibly have to have IIS installed on your local machine, else you
might have to upload files to your web server to preview.

Thanks for the reply, Julian.

By IIS, it take it you mean a server. I don't have a server installed.
Currently, I do upload my pages to the host server where I do the testing. I
was just hoping that Macromedia had found a way to test .shtml pages without
having to do the upload runaround.

they could enter their remote server's ftp info into so it's the Testing
Server, and dw would use the remote server for Preview with TMP files- and
the ssi would render. It does cause a few seconds delay while dw uploads the
file.

If you're on WinXP pro, you can install IIS. If you're on XP Home, you'd
probably be stuffed.

Jules,

I am stuffed - I'm on a Mac!

Alan,

That sounds like it might work. Could you explain how I would set up DW to use a remote server?
