Mac and invalid files
|
|
| c_kyr 2004-06-14, 12:22 pm |
| I just bought a Mac computer and Dreamweaver for Mac.
When I open a html file I created with my PC and re-save it on my Mac and try
to upload it to either geocities or lycos, I get an invalid file error.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

What gives you an invalid file error? What is the exact error message? What
is the filename of the file that gives you the error? Can you upload other
files (files you haven't modified yet)?

| I have no problem with unaltered and new files.
Only old files I re-save.
I have tried save as with many different file names -> the same problem again...

Again, WHAT (ie, what program/service) is giving you the error, and what IS
the exact error?

Do the files have the same icon when you view them in the finder or are
there spaces in the names (or other troublesome characters)??

| The message of the error is -invalid file.
The filename I am using is bio.html
The file's icon is the dreamweaver icon, just like other html files I can normally upload

and the files are in the same folder and the filepermissions (os x) are
corect? (just a wild guess) (point to the file and look with command i
and compare with a file tha works) I am puzzled...
And do you have the same problem with another ftp program? (like fetch)

WHAT PROGRAM is giving you that error? Dreamweaver? Your server? Your web
browser?
Does the file already exist on the server? Can you delete the file remotely?
If not, them you maybe don't have permissions to over-write the file with
the new one.

| these are guesses, you can say yes or no on if they are correct or wrong.
the thing that is displaying the error message "invalide file" is the file
uploader at geocities or lycos? The webpage uploader is saying it's an
invalid file type?
WHAT exact full filename and extension are the problem files?
I'm guessing you've given them a wrong file extension, or somehow
"doubled-up" the file extension, like mypage.html.html
rename the files in the Dreamweaver F8 site manager window, if that's the
case.
If that isn't the case, please answer the questions about when and where the
error is coming up. And the exact full filenames it's happening from.
