Secure Login Using No Cookies?
|
|
| dmanjones 2004-06-14, 12:22 pm |
| Hey guys,
I was wondering if there was a way to design a secure login section for our
site without having to use cookies?
Or a better question would be...how do i go about creating a secure section in
our site?
Thanks a bunch in advance

You'll still need cookies enabled, though.

Not necessarily. I don't know about ASP, presumably it has the same
capability as PHP to pass the session ID as a URL parameter instead of
using cookies.

..NET has that capability. Classic ASP as well, but has to be custom coded.
The reply was intended to address having to use the built-in DW server
behaviors; not a custom solution.

Thanks. In PHP, it's a simple configuration issue. A single line of code
will handle it.

| Thanks for the answer Gary,
You said i could use .NET to get the result i was looking for. Can you go a
little into specifics with it?
Heres the deal:
We have a log in page right now that requires you to accep cookies when trying
to log in.....now thats all fine and dandy as long as one of the 1% of internet
users dont try and log in.
I hate the idea of having to tell people to accept all cookies...i guess as
the user, if you dont know what a cookie is and you dont accept it cause you
think its a bad thing....maybe you shouldnt be surfing at all, but as they say
unfortunatly we still have to think of that user and keep him in mind when
designing. So that is why i asked if there was a way to creat a log in page
without using cookies?
I use Dreamweaver MX and normally land up hand coding most pages anyway, but
when it comes to back end stuff like ASP and .NET i dont know much about it, im
sorry to say. I have a guy who codes all my back end stuff using ASPX, so if i
could tell him what i needed to do he could probably get it done for me or at
least try...lol
Sorry for the long email but any help would be great... :-)

No. That was Kindler that said that. I've only done a little bit of ASP and
never done anything with .NET. I pretty much stay in the PHP neighborhood.
Perhaps someone with a better knowledge of .NET can jump in here. If not,
perhaps asking the question in the appdev forum would get you a better
response.

Actually, they would not need to accept all cookies. They only need to
accept session cookies from the originating (not third party) web site.
