I am guessing you mean a new column with Lycos search in it . . . Maybe you
inadvertently clicked search?
If that's it -> Is there an x up on the Search title bar in the fold-out
thingy? click it.

Hi Dan,

Both Spyware and Adware should be able to remove it... it did for my
daughter!

Heya Kim,

Ran Adaware only 2 weeks ago, but will do it again.
Sometimes I actually admire PC owners. How the heck can they stand all
this spywares and stuff?

Cheers,

Thanks Dur,

I'm sober enough to figure that one out. :-)
The trick is to trash the bloody thing for good since it opens each time
the missus launches IE (which she rarely do after I showed her Firefox).
But I need to check some sites on that gruesome machine and all its
browsers....

Be suspicious and use Firefox :o)

Seriously... my daughter runs Win98SE and what a nightmare that is. She's
aware of all the "dangers" but she keeps getting all kinds of "features"
from mostly kids sites (pisses me of bigtime) like Powerbabes, Arto, MSN
add-ons etc and she refuses to use firefox (not as cool as IE... she's
blonde and 12 :) so I learned her to format C: and install Win98 :o)

(XP won't work with her config and W2K doesn't do The Sims)

It's easy. Have a good firewall and antivirus and you never see spyware or
adware anymore. I run Ad-Aware and Spybot every few weeks and they haven't
found anything in a year.

IFAK AV and firewalls will not prevent spyware or addware...

She has AGV antivirus but I think it depends which sites you visit. Not so
long ago she had one (can't remember its name) that destroyed Spybot (well
made it not work although it seemed it was working)

I run the free version of ZoneAlarm (latest update) and VET antivirus
(updated daily) on Win XP Pro.

I run these every day or so and they regularly find things for deletion.

I stand slightly corrected. They will find things, but only a few tracking
cookies, never any spyware or adware.

If your firewall is doing its job and you use the newer advanced features on
Spybot, it will help "lock" your browser and system from hijackers and other
trojans. It works like a charm for me.

Yep, true enough. I regularly delete cookies (based on reports from Ad-aware
and Spybot) but no spyware or adware gets through.
