Author nested template
two can's

2004-06-11, 7:15 pm

Hi yea,
i have a template called template1 and all is great, but some of the files
that i create with the template needed to be saved in a directory, so what I
want to know is,

nested templates,

do I open my template1 and save it as template2, then change some of the
paths, from there any files that needed to be saved inside the folder i
will create from template2

will this mean when I change something in template1 that some of template 2
will change also.

regards

twocan

No.

Spawn a child from template1. Save the child as a template.

Yes.

All things considered, though, nested templates are usually more trouble
than they are worth.

So what does this mean and why does it compel you to make a nested template?

Hi yea Murry,

The paths in template1 will be different from template2 as what I have
created with template 2 will reside in a directory, i have a pop up send to
friend page link and find that the path in template2 will have to be
changed.

do you know what I mean, huum I am not the best at explaining myself.

I don't see any reason to use a nested template to cover something like
that.

You can create pages from template1 and save them in any directory in your
site without having link problems.

Hi yea,
thanks for the reply,

<a class="black9" href="sendToFriend.asp?<%=
Request.ServerVariables("PATH_INFO") %>?<%=
Request.ServerVariables("QUERY_STRING")%>" title="Send To Friend"
onClick="dpSmartLink(this.href,'STFriend',460,350,'150:150',0);return
document.MM_returnValue">SEND TO FRIEND</a>

above is my send to friend link from my template1, when I save this page
everything works, but when I save it into a directory and then click the
send to friend link I get a 404 as in the page cannot be found. huuummm I
think i am getting dandruff from scratching my head .

Why didn't you say you were using server-scripted links?

I dunno....

I'm at a loss to suggest an alternate to you. If nested templates will
work, then go for it!
