MX crashes on click and drag
|
|

| I have a pretty new install of MX 7.01 on an XP Pro machine with 512 RAM.
Things went fine the first week, but now Dreamweaver is crashing almost every
time I do a click and drag in a code window in preparation for a copy and
paste. I have recreated site caches and tried it in different sites with the
same behaviour on different files. I am always working in the code window when
this happens. I get no error messages just the 'send error message' dialog box.
It is getting to the point where the program is becoming unusable. Reboots do
not usually solve it.

| Tell me about your system, its operating environment, antivirus, firewall,
location of the local sites, etc.

| Murray,
Here are some spec details:
Win XP Pro, up to date service packs
640 Megs ram
2 wk old install of MX 7.01
Most site files are located in a HTML subfolder of my 'MyDocuments'
Ex:"C:\Documents and Settings\Gary Miller\My Documents\HTML\chamber"
Using Norton Anti-Virus 2002
Only firewalls are through my router and Win XP built in firewall, no other
software firewalls.
Background Applications:
Norton AV
SQL Server Service Manager
Sound and Video drivers
Normal other programs open:
Outlook Express
IE 6
WSFTP
MSAccess (XP, 97 or both)
Thanks for any attention you can give this

| Gary:
OK - disable Norton, and turn off WXP's firewall (if you are using a router,
you don't need this at all).
Now disable Norton again (most people think they have only to find out they
didn't!).
Still have the problem?

| Murray,
I was incorrect on the XP firewall. I did not have that enabled.
I disabled Norton, opened MX and I did a couple of copies with no crash. Let
me play with this a while and see if the problem has really gone away with it
disabled or if it just isn't there yet.
If Norton and MX clashing is the problem, I am not going to be very
comfortable disabling it all the time as I am sure you are aware. Any ideas if
this is the case? Would you think trying .htm, .shtm, .cfm, etc... file
extensions would affect anything? Are you seeing common problems with Norton?
Thanks,
Gary

| Search the newsgroups for "Norton" and draw your own conclusion!
Many people here use Norton successfully. Many do not. What's the
difference? I dunno. Wouldn't touch Norton with your finger, though - I
use PC-Cillin....
Norton is very aggressive in its realtime scanning - you could try excluding
the Macromedia folder hierarchy from the realtime scan and see if that
helps.

I honestly don't know.
