Author trying to set up 2 diff style links, wont work!

Im in CSS and created, .body a: link, .body a:visited. .body a:hover, .body a:
active. I named the layer id="body"

when I want to create a link for a text in this layer, it defaults to the
original style link. why isnt it taking effect?
also someone said U dont need to use tables <td> in order to do this. u can
simply name the layer. however I of course have several layers on the page and
it wont let you name all the layers the same so u can apply this new style link
to everything..

Probably because you have created a 'class' rather than an 'id' . Class
is prefixed with a '.' whilst 'id' is prefixed with '#'

Also I would name your layer something other than 'body'

Group you layer names to which you want the specific style applied,

#layer1 a:link, #layer2 a:link {blah blah blah}

#layer1 a:visited, #layer2 a:visited {blah blah blah}

<hint>Many of the answers, particularly correct ones, come from the NNTP
forum. Such considerations don't affect the NNTP forum.</hint>

a previous post, it lists it up at the top of the message board again..? thanks

Bad name for an ID.
