Please help!
I'm putting up a site with norwegian letters in the domain name, but DW FTP
cannot make connection to the host.
With the sharewareprogram SmartFTP it works fine.
The domainname are: www.allmogekj?kken.no (ø)
I'm trying to get an answer from my host, but they don't have any experience
with Dreamweaver (????)http://www.allmogekj?kken.no

never heard of this before- but may have found a possible way through this
for you-

this page details info from the .be registrar,
http://www.dns.be/eng/News/whatsnew04mar2004.htm

this section:However we have to mention that the name can be used in its
encoded form. E.g. café.be becomes in its encoded form: xn--caf-dma.be

so- find out what the encoded version of the domain name is, and plug that
info dreamweaver.

note- it would probably be a good idea to put the encoded version in a
footnote or site bar on the site- my browser and email client won't handle
the characters, and a lot of other people's won't either.

converter page:
http://www.norid.no/domenenavnbaser/ace/?language=en

Domain Name................: allmogekjøkken.no
ACE Domain Name............: xn--allmogekjkken-jnb.no

so, try
xn--allmogekjkken-jnb.no

as your domain name in Dreamweaver.

If i typed the domain name wrong, did you try the conversion page?

http://www.norid.no/domenenavnbaser/ace/?language=en

I typed an o-slash, option+o on macintosh keyboard.
ø

This domain:
http://xn--allmogekjkken-jnb.no/
brings up what i'm guessing is a "coming soon" page:
Allmogekjøkken er under utarbeidelse, og åpner snart.

check with your hosting, to see if ftp access is enabled using the ACE
domain name.

Another possible for you to explore with your Host--

Many hosts, it's possible to use servername.myhost.com as the ftp address.
servername is a subdomain pointed to the "box" you are hosted on.

Check with your host to see if a similar alternate ftp address is possible
with them, perhaps.

The problems where fixed when my host gave me an ipadress, username and a new
password without the norwegian letter oslash (ø).
It seems that Dreamweaver didn't like this.
Thanks for all replies
