Author Shopping Cart Codes

I'm setting up a site where customers can buy bottles of nail polish. The price
is $3 for one and $2.50 for two or more. I've got a text box where they can
fill in the quantity they want; the hidden elements are "post," "store ID,"
"product name," and "product price" (which I set as $3). Then I have an "add
to cart" button.
My question: How and where do I set up the code for the price break so the
shopping cart vendor knows how to add it up?
Thanks!

The prices should be pulled from a database table.
You may need to look at some web security resources:

Why do you store the price and all the other things in hidden fields?
Why do you send them to the client at all? What if the client modifies
the price field - will he get the product for 0,99 then?
