Peter,
I recently--well, last summer, really, implemented a blog through
Moveable Type...at the time the software was free, but they charged you
to install it if you were too cgi-impaired to do it yourself, which I was.
In the meantime, I've heard they are charging more but have not followed up.
The only other example of content management system I've encountered
since then is something called myfamily.com--for a tariff of about $30
per year you get their preconfigured and dumbed-down address databases,
picture-uploading facilitators, password protection etc., all of which
would take a while to roll from scratch unless you already knew what you
are doing.
If this is completely off base, I'm sorry. :-/
