Hi.. I'd like to change the paths of the links of about 100 files spread
across 50 subfolders.

Is there a massive search/replace tool that you guys recommend?

DW's built-in find/replace? Very powerful, fairly easy to use.

yup.

yup.

is this site defined in dw?

change to this site.
open Find and replace.

set the parameter.
Find, sitewide, in source : somestring
replace: someotherstring.

dreamweaver find and replace does EXACTLY what it's told, quickly, without
opening the files.

can use Regular expressions for more power- f&r is very powerful in
dreamweaver.

Note- if at all unsure- Make a backup of the site folders before doing find
and replace. There is no "undo" if it gets fouled up.

Requires manually selecting and opening all 100 files doesn't it?

I'm talking about a tool that will automatically replace string X by string
Y in all *.html files of the current folder and all subfolders.

No files to open other than the tool.

I know it exists. Programmers use this all the time. I just don't know the
name or where to get it.

DWMX find/replace will do that.

Open a file with the offending string, build your F&R command, and in "Find
In:" pulldown, select "emtire Current Local Site" or, better yet, select the
files in the Site View that you want to apply the changes to, and pick
"Selected Files in Site"

Dreamweaver finds and replaces all the matching text or code (depending
which view you're in) in all the files without opening any of them.

I had no idea DW worked that way. Sorry for jumping too quickly to
conclusions.

Thanks (to the two Joes too)

[snip]

And also be sure to investigate the "Search: Specific tag" (drop down menu)
feature of the Find & Replace! It can do amazing things in an *intelligent*
way, based on understanding HTML.
