Author Newbie: Inserting Hyperlink Prob in 2004

I've found that if I wish the link text and the target to be the same
and if I highlight a link and then either click the hyperlink icon or
insert/hyperlink

sometimes dw fills in the text and the link with the link I've
highlighted, and sometimes it doesn't

for example
of these 3 links
1 http://www.Barry.Pearson.name/photography/
2 http://www.BirdsAndAnimals.info/
3 http://www.ChildSupportAnalysis.co.uk/

only 1, is automatically filled in by dw, I have to enter the other
two manually

is there a logical reason for this?

David:

I have no idea what you are doing or asking. Can you clarify?

I took trouble to explain my point
obviously not well enough

I'll try again ....

on my personal homepage I'm compiling a dw FAQ for myself

sometimes these include newsgroup posting such as this

if the post has 'say' http://www.dreamweavermx-templates.com

in it, and I copy and paste that into dw, I can make a hyperlink of it
in dw

If I highlight the link, then insert/hyperlink, or click on the
hyperlink icon on the general tab, the 'create hyperlink dialogue box
opens.

As I said in my post, sometimes dw automatically inserts the
highlighted hyperlink into the dialogue box, both for the 'link' and
'text' fields

sometimes it doesn't

why the inconsistency?

David:

I understand what you are asking now, but I don't have a clue why there
would be such intermittant failure. I suspect it is related to a variation
in what you have selected when you apply the command, or perhaps the way you
are applying the command. It's usually such things that trap the
inexperienced.

If you can come up with a set of steps that cause the feature to fail every
time, then someone can act on that. Would that be possible?

Thanks Murray for your time

Just to show how intermittent this prob is,
I tried my stuff last night on those links which didn't easily go into
the relevant field in the dialogue box
and surprise surprise they all worked!!

when I can make it repeatable I'll get back

thanks

I've made progress

If I try my technique in design view
I get intermittent 'failures'
if I then click on code view, whilst the link is still highlighted, I
get a 100% success

try copying and pasting your signature, which has several links, into
a blank page and try inserting hyperlink in design view
