Viewing swf files in Safari
|
|
|
| I placed a swf file on our webpage using Dreamweaver MX and was able to preview
the file in Internet Explorer, but when trying to view it in Safari it was just
a white box. I downloaded the Flash and Shockwave players and made Safari my
default browser with still no luck. I checked Macromedias test page and both
flash and shockwave players worked fine. Is there something else Safai is
requiring in order to view swf files?

Safari will play it if it gets that far. If you type in the direct lnk
to the .swf file it has no trouble.
The problem is that browser I suspect is choking on all the javascipt
and code that you are throwing at it.
Im no expert on MM generated menus but I counted eight, maybe more
javascripts in the head of your page related to those menus. Add in the
nasty code gernerated by letting Firewoks make your tables and you can
expect something not to function correctly.
I hope someone has a more positive answer for you.

| (Sorry if you take this as harsh)
Ouch - that's a pudgy page (not counting the SWF!) -
Size of all images: 232.565 kB
Size of HTML-source: 106.2 kB
Size of whole page: 338.765 kB
And you wanna talk about "big hair" - WOWZA! (no offense intended)
The head of the document is a train wreck, as Osgood suggests. You have
multiple redundant instances of the stock MM js functions therein.
The way I see it, over 60% of this page is javascript. That's a very bad
omen.
Also, do you want this page/site ranked by search engines? Cause with the
menus you have used, the search engine is only going to see the home page.

| Your page is a 103Kb file, not counting the graphics! It took Safari
about two minutes to load on a DSL line. As Osgood said, it probably is choking
on all that code (DW also seems to be choking - it doesn't look very happy with
your coding...). As for me I never had any problem with Flash in my pages and I
test them on everything that is available on the Mac.
