| hi. i have a page of thumbnails in a table. each thumbnail will be linked to
a full size image. I'd like to preload the full size images while your
looking at the thumbnail page. But, when I click on tag, to select "Preload
images", "Preload images" is greyed out and I cant choose it.
If on the other hand, my thumbnails are part of an image that is cut up as an
image map, "preload images" is not greyed out and I can then choose the images
to preload...
Whats the difference? Id like to be able to preload the images when the
thumbnails are in a table, instead of an imagemap.
Thanks!

a pure guess- but is this page a child of a template?
If it is, you can't apply the preload to the <body> tag.
what you can do is select a link on the page (any link that's editable)
and apply the preload behavior to that.
note- this means the page is going to finish loading very slowly...

| Ah! Selecting the body tag allowed me to click on preload images.... I didnt
know how to do that before. thank you.
Im sorry, I dont know what "child of a template" means. So I assume it is
not. I did not use a template, just inserted a table on a new page....thank
you anyhow...
Is this preloading of images a good thing? Is there a reason to preload the
jpeg instead of the html that contains the jpeg? Just cuz the jpeg is bigger
file wise?
Thanks!

| Good - you're welcome. I'm glad I could help.

In DW, you can create a page template (containing all of the page's
"boilerplate") and spawn child pages from this template. Such child pages
will not allow you to edit any of the boilerplate elements. It is possible
that this could have been what was interfering with your ability to add the
preload.
> Is this preloading of images a good thing?
It can be. But remember that a preload will not change the fact that your
page weight is 100K (as an example). In other words, a page with tons of
heavy images will behave like a page with tons of heavy images whether the
images are preloaded or not. In fact in this case, a preload could actually
slow things down.

You can't preload HTML.

The image would never be bigger (heavier) than the page that contains it.
