Author Previewing SHTML pages

Hi,

I've created a new site that has a server side include. In order for the
include to work on my server, I had to change the file extension to .shtml.
While that works on the server, now I can't test the pages on my computer thru
DWMX because it doesn't seem to work with .shtml. When I go to select a
browser to test it on, the browsers are all greyed, so I can't select any of
them.

Any suggestions as to what I can do? I really don't want to have to change
all the link extensions every time I move a page up to the server.

Thanks.

If you are using a server side include, the only was to preview your page (as
far as im aware) is to run it through a server.

Same as if you are creating an ASP page, you need to setup a site within
dreamweaver and have the files saved within the server. So as long as you are
running a server on your own pc (Apache, IIS etc) you will be able to test
your pages.

When it tests the pages, it knows that this is a server side page and so,
opens it via a URL i.e http://localhost/mywebs/index.asp

Hope that helped.

Hi Jay,

Thanks for the reply.

I got the part about having the pages on the server to test the SSI. However,
what I was trying to find out is if there is a way to test the pages on my
computer (w/o a server) while the pages have the .shtml extension. I realize I
wouldn't get the parts that are in the SSI, but I want to test the rest. With
the .shtml extension, DWMX will not allow me to test any of it.
