Preload Code in Odd Places - DW MX 2004
|
|
| George 2004-04-21, 2:36 pm |
| SITUATION:
I'm a new Dreamweaver user. I used DW MX 2004 insert preload code into a
page, and upon checking the code I found the onload was entered in a <td>
tag like so:
<td onload="MM_preloadImages('images/pic1.gif','images/pic2.gif')">
I've always thought this code **usually** belongs <body> tag. I manually
moved the code into the <body> tag, and reviewed my printed instructions for
inserting preload code. The instructions say:
1. Select an object and open the Behaviors panel.
2. Click the Plus (+) buttons and select Preload Images from the pop-up
menu.
etc..........
So following #1 I selected an object, picture on the page in the WYSIWIG
view, and I assume the <td> that contained the picture was where the onload
event was loaded..
QUESTION:
What should I have clicked on instead of the picture, or what did I
(probably) do wrong?

| Macromedia have released a bug fix for MX2004 which you can download from
their site. It may not help this specific problem but it will certainly
help with others. When we are new to something why do we always assume that
it must be us that is doing something wrong and not the software
manufacturer?

| This is only an operator bug.
George:
To apply the preload properly, you should have selected the <body> tag on
the TagSelector. When you selected the image, you told DW to apply the
preload to something other than the body (although it's surprising it
applied to the <td> and not the <img> tag.
Get to know the TagSelector. It is your friend!

| It is a bug though. DW shouldn't allow you to apply its preload
behaviour to a <td> tag.

In DW4: Click inside the cell. Highlight the <td> tag at the bottom of
the window. Apply behavior.
This appears to have been fixed in later versions.
