I too have the same problem with MX 2004. I have several sites on the same server and they all won't work. The Windows 2000 server uses Serv-U ftp software which may or may not be to blame? I still have the old DreamWeaver MX installed and the synchronizi
ng works just fine.

Anyone have any updates on this? I still don't see the issue on the Known or Emerging Issues page:
http://www.macromedia.com/go/18895

The problem is that many files show up needing to be synchronized in the preview window but then they all say "Not Updated" after hitting OK.

I too am experiencing this synchronization problem exactly as it is described above. In fact all in our office are experiencing the same problem. Definitely making it difficult to collaborate. We're having to write down the files we've modified so that ot
hers can manually retrieve them.

in a multi-user shop- have you tried using checkin/checkout and having the
"local site folder" truly local, inside each workstation??

That is a good workaround idea. We are using the local file on each individual workstation.
Does Dreamweaver always check for a new version when a file is checked out?

We stopped using check in/check out a while ago because of the hassle dealing with all the locked files outside of Dreamweaver. Time to give it another try I guess.

Thanks for the suggestion.

checkin/checkout is a fair way to go- IF all people are using dreamweaver
or contribute. People using other editors- they will have to manually check
for newer files on the server.

checkin/checkout checks the timestamps on your local copy and on the server.
If the server is newer, dw automatically d'loads and opens it. Dw also puts
a lock file on the server- to prevent other dw users from opening that file
while you are working on it.

BIG thing- all of you have to check in all files when done working.
Otherwise- files will be left locked and people will have to guess what's
going on and overide the lock file, or manually delete the .LCK file.

in dw-
open the Site Manager window F8
Click mouse in local side, to give focus.
Dw menu-->Site-->Site Files View-->Select Checked Out Files.
after dw finds all the files you have checked out- click the Check IN
button. Done.

As with any system of collaborative working- some rules need to be enforce,
otherwise bad workflow or bad habits will cause problems.
Bribery, or a large blunt object can help.

My query is related so I'll add it to this thread ...
I am using DW MX installed from the Studio MX CD. 300 miles away, my
colleagues are using DW MX installed from the DW v4 upgrade. When either of us
check out files from the remote site, they do not show in the local sites of
the other users so we have no idea who is working on what files. Consequently
we have had numerous occasions where we have overwritten each others work !
Is this a problem that can be solved by having everyone on the same install
package ? or is it something so obvious that we can't see it ? We have the
check in/out box enabled on the remote site set up (in Mange sites/Edit etc).
Any help or advice appreciated. I've gone through the help options and can't
see anything that is different from when we were all on v4 and that worked
perfectly.

After reading this thread and finding similar questions with no real answers, I
did a little experimenting with settings to try and resolve the issue that I
too was having.

The Synchronize command revealed that there were in fact files to be updated,
but after clicking the "ok" button, the sync feature did not update any files
and says "0 files updated, X files skipped" and all files show up as "not
updated" under the status column of the sync window.

I found that if I change the Host Directory entry in the Remote Info category
of the Site Definition screen (Site >> Edit Sites >> Remote Info), my issue was
instantly resolved and the Sync command now worked as it should. Specifically,
I changed the Host Directory from "//" to " " (blank). Seems elementary.

Hope this helps anyone having the same problem.

How did the host directory field get to contain "//" in the first place?

Losing the plot

I'm glad I'm not alone. There is a fix and it's in the online help, but it
means changing the core code of DW and I'm not going to do that. My host
replied to a technical question thus:
'When DW connects to the remote server it writes a folder called XYIZNWSK (in
Caps) the server then converts it to lower case. This folder queries the date
and time with the remote server and is then automatically deleted (usually).
When DW tries to read from the folder XYIZNWSK it can\'t because it has been
converted to lower case, (it thinks it doesn\'t exist).

To resolve the problem try going to your DWMX installation folder. (eg.
C:\\program files\\Macromedia\\Dreamweaver MX\\) and backup your
dreamweaver.exe file. Then try opening the file in a HEX editor program. When
you have located the XYIZNWSK, simply change it to lower case and save the
dreamweaver.exe file; and you should be back in business. If this doesn\'t work
just copy back the back up copy of dreamweaver.exe.'

Well I for one do not have the competency to do that. I'm a designer for
heaven's sake.

Unfortunately the workaround is the only way I'm aware of to address
this problem at present, if your FTP server is indeed renaming the
directory on it's own. Please make sure to note this directly to the
product team via their wishform so it can be looked at in future
versions/updates:

Thanks!
